Hearts & Crafts Counseling was founded in 1994 to serve families living with loss such as death, illness and divorce. Located at the Carriage House at 60 East Main Street in Ramsey NJ, families are provided with a safe, home-like setting. Hearts & Crafts Counseling is the skilled partnership of Laura Hudson, a Board Certified Art Therapist and Terry DeBrule, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Together, they provide a unique blend of professionalism and true caring to all those who enter the Carriage House.
Laura Hudson, M.S., A.T.R-B.C., L.C.A.T. - Laura, a Board Certified Art Therapist, earned her Bachelor of arts in Psychology and Education from Rutgers College in 1981. She continued her education at College of New Rochelle to earn her masters in Art Therapy. Laura is a former elementary school and special education teacher. She has worked in a variety of settings including hospice, schools, hospitals, and counseling centers. In 1994 Laura founded Hearts & Crafts Counseling, where she has dedicated herself to helping children and teens living with loss. Using a variety of art therapy techniques, Laura provides individual counseling, group counseling, and facilitates many special events throughout the year. Currently she is the Co-Director of Hearts & Crafts Counseling in partnership with social worker Terry DeBrule. For the past decade they have used a team approach to help the entire grieving family heal. Terry DeBrule, M.S.W. C.S.W., L.C.S.W. - Terry, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, earned her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Psychology at The George Washington University in 1983. She continued her education at Bryn Mawr College Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research, earning her masters in Social Work. A former parole officer with experience in drug and alcohol work in the inner city of Philadelphia, Terry has worked in a variety of settings including hospitals facilitating support groups for teen mothers, first time parents, and interracial families. In 1996 Terry joined art therapist Laura Hudson to co-direct Hearts & Crafts Counseling. She provides individual and group counseling for teens and adults and facilitates many unique events throughout the year. For the past decade Terry has continued to devote herself to working in tandem with Laura Hudson to help entire families through the grief process.
Mimi Granat, M.S.W., L.C.S.W. –Mimi, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, earned her Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Social Policy from Northwestern University in 1983. She continued her education at Rutgers Graduate School of Social Work, where she earned her masters degree in Social Work in 1986. Mimi has worked in a variety of social work settings including hospitals and adoption agencies. In her work as a hospital social worker she has counseled patients and their families in an oncology unit as well as the maternal and child health departments. She has facilitated support groups for new parents as well as for families experiencing miscarriage and newborn loss. Mimi also helped initiate a support group for the children of cancer patients at the Middlesex County American Cancer Society. In March, 2006 Mimi joined Terry DeBrule and Laura Hudson at Hearts & Crafts Counseling. She provides individual and group counseling to clients and works collaboratively with Terry and Laura in order to aid in the entire family’s healing process.
