Hearts & Crafts creates a home away from home for families living with loss. We welcome children, teens and adults who may be affected by loss for a variety of reasons such as illness, separation, abuse and death.
INDIVIDUAL AND FAMILY COUNSELING Laura Hudson and Terry DeBrule have extensive experience helping children and adults who are living with the kinds of feelings and problems associated with loss.
Children participate in a 45 minute interactive psychotherapy session. At each session, the child will participate in a unique craft or activity to aid the child in discussing their grief or loss. The use of non threatening techniques help the child open up and explore their fears, worries, hopes, and concerns.
All too often, parents focus exclusively on their children's grief, neglecting their own grief process. We encourage parents to address their own feelings of loss through adult sychotherapy sessions. Adults participate in a 45 minute psychotherapy session, up in the Loft.
CHILDREN'S SUPPORT GROUPS Our children’s support groups are based on the Art Therapy model, which incorporates art, music, play, drama, and a listening ear. Groups run ten weeks and are led by Laura Hudson, a Board Certified Art Therapist and a co-facilitator. Groups are formed based on age and the issues to be addressed.
TEEN SUPPORT GROUPS Teen support groups are formed according to the needs of our clients and are available upon request.
PARENT/ADULT GROUPS Each of our children’s support groups has a simultaneous parent/adult group conducted by Terry DeBrule, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. The parent/adult group offers a safe place for adults to express their own grief as well as to receive help dealing with their child’s grief. At times, the adult group will join the children’s group for a joint session.
COMMUNITY EDUCATION We offer a selection of programs to healthcare providers, mental health professionals, schools, clubs, organizations and religious groups interested in partnerships to explore specific topics related to grief and loss.
