Letters from Our Friends

We often receive notes from our Hearts & Crafts families expressing their gratitude for the support they receive. These lovely gestures come in many forms from handwritten notes on napkins to those printed on letterhead and even some written with crayons. We cherish every one of them.
"I am a 9/11 widow with 2 girls and 1 boy. At the time of my husband’s death I had no idea where to turn or that I needed bereavement counseling. I am totally grateful for the tools that they have taught me, and have also given my children. From my youngest to the oldest, we still go years later, we’re still learning and growing. I don't think I would have gotten this far without their assistance. Laura and Terry have given my children and myself hope for the future, that we can still grow spiritually, emotionally and socially."- Marie A., 9/11 Widow
"Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for participating in the RTS Perinatal Bereavement Conference. There is no question that your presence and input were some of the most significant moments of the training." - Pam, Good Samaritan Hospital
"Thank you for the memories from Camp Grief Busters. Siobhan and I shared many wonderful stories about her Dad at the camp and after it was over." - Hearts & Crafts Military Family
"Thank you so much for an AWESOME weekend. My favorite part was every single thing we did at camp! P.S. I can't wait for next year!" - Paige Z., age 15
"We've had so much more healing and validation as a result of your loving facilitation." - Former client
"As a widow with two small children, my family members were "lost lambs" until I met Laura Hudson and her staff at Hearts & Crafts. I was able to network with other widows and people who had just experienced loss. It was often helpful to share strategies that helped me, and in the process, I helped others. My kids enjoyed interacting with children who experienced a recent loss in their lives. They made craft projects which they still have 14 years later as reminders of their dad. These projects served as a catharsis for their feelings of sadness. They were able to focus on positive memories, instead. Hearts & Crafts is a fabulous organization which helps those with loss get their lives back on track." - Laura B.
"It was without a doubt the best thing I ever did for my daughter, and for myself."- Camp Grief Busters Camper.
“I lost my beautiful, little boy, Kenny when he was just 11 years old. He was hit by a car and died two days later. I was devastated to say the least. I could not have gotten this far without the help, guidance, support, encouragement and love from Terry DeBrule and the Hearts & Crafts Counseling Center. Terry has been my therapist and a trusted, caring person. Her knowledge in this terrible world of grief and loss is so thorough and beneficial. It continues to provide strength and confirmation for me each week, month, year and sometimes, just for a few moments.I am so completely grateful for the work Terry and Hearts & Crafts provides for our community and for me.”- Carolyn
“When we went to Hearts & Crafts we stayed. Laura is very open and the kids immediately trusted her. The work they did at Hearts & Crafts helped them to process their feelings, not suppress them. I cannot recommend Heart & Crafts enough.” - Andrew D.
"Hearts & Crafts was an invaluable part of the healing process for me and my kids. At a time when I was in shock and trying to keep it together as a mom, I felt empowered to be doing 'something' by getting my kids to Hearts & Crafts each week. In that hour I knew that they had the freedom to express themselves with Laura and the sense of security that their feelings mattered and were respected. The creative projects were a concrete reminder each week that everything would be okay, that we were moving forward. I have the utmost respect and admiration for the Hearts & Crafts people. They are truly a blessing." - Lori
"We were lucky to find Hearts & Crafts...It is wonderful to know that there are such caring individuals in the world." - Anonymous
“The sadness that set in as a mother trying to console her 9 year old daughter because her daddy died and the sadness I felt having lost my ex-husband (whom I still loved very much in many ways) was so overwhelming that it felt as if someone had carved a hole into the core of my being. It was a difficult time for both of us and the support we received from Laura and Terry, well, there are no words that can describe my gratitude. I'm proud to say that Jacqueline spent her 1st year this past June at Camp Grief Busters not as a camper but as a counselor. I heard she was wonderful to work with and with all the children who had lost a parent or loved one. She knows what they think and what they feel and she knows exactly what to say and what not to say. I sometimes wonder what would have become of us if it weren't for Hearts & Crafts. Thank God I will never have to know.” - Dee S.
"I just want to thank both of you for a WONDERFUL WEEKEND!!! You all arranged an amazing program that put some joy and happiness back in our lives during a difficult time, teaching us it's OK to feel happy after our loss and also showing us ways to get through the sad times. I know Erin uses the crafts she has made in group to get her through some tough times either at school or when friends don't understand her grief. Thank you for all you do and the time you take to do it. We are very blessed to have people like you in our lives who take their time to help others with such kindness and creativity. " - Joann and Erin M.
